The Smith Mountain Lake Triathlon was held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Huddleston.  Complete results of this event can be fount at This LINK.  Photos for this event have also been posted in our Photo Gallery:

The Fish Like The Pros Youth Fishing Tournament was held at Parkway Marina on Smith Mountain Lake on April 17, 2010.  Over 200 children 4 - 15 years of age from the region converged onto the peninsula of Parkway Marina in Huddleston to compete for a number of prizes.  All fish were weighed regardless of type to determine the winners of this tournament.  In the end, one four pound carp established the winner.  In addition to carp, blue gill panfish and small mouth bass were caught.  Everyone in attendance appeared to have fun and "hats off" to Bedford and Franklin County for coming together to establish and fund this wonderful tournament.

The Blue Ridge Brawl fishing tournament got underway today but not without some concern over a possible delay.  Fog settled heavy on portions of Smith Mountain Lake overnight so much so that tournament officials contemplated delaying the official 6:20 AM start time.  After careful observations were completed, the officials decided to start the tournament on time.  Participants were cautioned about heavy fog near Smith Mountain Lake state park.  Over 90 boats left from Parkway Marina in search of their daily limit of five bass over 14" in length.  Fishing will continue on the lake tomorrow and the 50 participants with the highest combined weights of all of their catches will fish on Saturday.  The final 12 will compete on Sunday for the top prize.
