Recent storms have raised water levels on The Pigg and Blackwater Rivers. Weekend event should prove to be fun as well as challenging.

Once again avid river paddlers and novices alike will converge on Franklin County to try their luck on the Blackwater and Pigg Rivers.

Entries for this year’s event have been steadily and increasingly coming in for the Seventh Annual Pigg River Ramble and Fun Float. The weekend of paddling will begin Friday evening at the CS&I (formerly Cooper Wood) on Grassy Hill road. Over 50 boats and seventy-four people have registered for the Friday Night float down Blackwater. The main event which will be held on Saturday has 80 boats with 125 paddlers and the numbers are still growing.

Sunday morning paddlers will once again take to the waters of the Blackwater River for the annual Breakfast on the Blackwater. The put-in location will be the same as the Friday night Blackout and along the way paddlers will be served breakfast by Butch and Mary Ann Wilcox of the Hub Restaurant.

Recent storms have raised the water levels of both rivers and should prove to be a fun and often challenging to all the participants in the three day event.
