Update: 9/11/2008 The Wright Kids performance of "Rocking Robin" on this weeks show has earned them a spot in the top 10. We all know them as extremely talented bluegrass musicians but their performances on America's Got Talent shows their remarkable ability to cross over to main stream and pop music.
Levi, Sage, and Baruch came onto the stage wearing 50's style outfits and immediately took control of the stage as well as the audience. Once they started to play the crowd jumped to their feet and began to dance along. David Hasselhoff commented that the Wright Kids "owned the stage" during their performance and according to the comments that have been posted on the AGT website, so does the show's viewers.
Original Post The Wright Kids from Rocky Mount, Virginia made their LIVE national TV debut tonight, August 27, 2008 shortly after 9:00 PM on America's Got Talent on NBC TV. The Wright Kids are competing on the show in the "Under 18's" category. Going outside their norm of Bluegrass music, which many of us have seen them perform live on the Farmer's Market in Rocky Mount and other venues, they decided to perform the Pop music song, "Daydream Believer" and brought the audience to their feet. Their simple charm showed through during their performance and follow up comments from the judges. Piers Morgan, who rose to national attention during his stint on The Apprentice, was booed by the audience for the comment that he made, saying that he did not believe their singing was the best. However, he did follow up with an observation of their charm. Sharon Osbourne and David Hasselhoff rebuffed Piers' comment by referring to The Wright Kids choosing to risk it all by performing Pop instead of their specialty, Bluegrass.
The Wright Kids, just as the Clark Brothers before them, represented Franklin County, VA very well. Franklin County is truly becoming known for the superior talent that is rising up from this farming community. Let us all wish The Wright Kids well in their endeavor to become the top performance for this season's show. You can follow The Wright Kids standing on the show by visiting the official America's Got Talent website.
