The Franklin County Community Chorus will present two free concerts in December.
As summer draws to a close in September, members of the The Franklin County Community Chorus begin to fine tune their performance for their annual winter concert.
The choral group was organized in 1995. Dr. Erma Rose, Professor Emeritus, Ferrum College, became the director of the group in 1996. The chorus has approximately fifty members and presents a spring concert and a winter concert each year. Their performance selections include a mix of classical, spirituals, modern favorites and Broadway music with holiday music included in the winter concert. Each year Dr. Gary Evans writes a song for the concerts. Through the years the chorus has been invited to perform throughout the county and has held concerts in Rocky Mount, Roanoke, Boones Mill, Penhook and Westlake.
The winter concert will have two performances in December. The first performance will be held December 13th at 7:30 pm at Bethlehem Church of the Brethren located at 4250 Bethlehem Church Road in Boones Mill. The second performance will held December 14th at 4:00 pm at Redwood Methodist Church located at 3001 Old Franklin Turnpike in Redwood.
Rounding out the talented group from Franklin County are the musicians who accompany the vocalists. Jeanne Banks accompanies the chorus on piano and Susan Spataro and Dea McClure provide flute and piccolo accompaniment.
No tickets are required for admittance to the concerts . Admission is free but donations are accepted to help offset expenses. Mark your calendar and join them for an evening (or an afternoon) of wonderful music!
