“The Crooked Road”
“The Crooked Road” is Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail, a driving route through the Appalachian Mountains from the western slopes of the Blue Ridge to the Coalfields region of the state. The Crooked Road has been developed to bring attention to Southwestern Virginia's rich history in traditional music along with the skills craftsmanship, a wide variety of traditional handcrafted woodwork, weaving, and pottery can be found along the trail in country stores and small workshops. Franklin County and Rocky Mount Joined the Crooked Road Trail to bring attention to the area and increase tourism to the area. Franklin County with it's two lakes, Smith Mountain Lake & Philpot Lake offers many opportunities of outdoor events such as , camping, boating, along with other sporting events every year.
Rocky Mount, Va., hosts many musical events during the year , the most noted event is The Festival in the Pines held at Tripple Creek Park. The Festival in the Pines bring musical talent from all over for a weekend of great traditional music and camping. Rocky Mount also host First Thursdays Concert Series, which kicks off in May every year and runs till October with local musicians providing entertainment on the first Thursday of every month, the event is held at the Farmers Market in Beautiful Downtown Rocky Mount and is organized by Community Partnership for Revitalization.
Ferrum Va. is home to the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival, This enormous entertaining event has long since become a Franklin County treasured tradition. Nessled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the beautiful campus of Ferrum College. Enjoy the wondrous sounds of Old-Time Mountain Music, sample delicious home-style foods, take a look and see the amazing crafts and craftsmanship demonstrations, as you prepare for the terrific recreational exhibits from a time now gone but surely not forgotten. |
